MOI

Usually when I do these illustrator projects, I have problem after problem, I hate how everything turns out, and the final product looks nothing like it initially looked when I first thought of it in my head. With this one though, that was totally not the case. I really like how this self-portrait came out, especially the detail in my dress. (I would have left it as just a black and white line drawing, but I just could not part with the dress.)

This one, on the other hand, drives me crazy. Ironically it's my good memory, of when I was a clarinet superstar. I'm so bothered by this image because I rendered the clarinet so quickly and so successfully, but its photorealistic style doesn't at all match my goofy face.

I'm having some serious trouble uploading my third portrait. I'll try again soon.

Let the Wild Rumpus Start

Oh this project! I lost track of how many completely different pictures I created... I am kind of satisfied with the final product... I'm happy that it's a recognizable circus tent, but at the same time, I'm disappointed that it isn't much besides your average circus tent.

And here is the image with color added. The hand is supposed to be welcoming the viewer to the wild rumpus, and while some people didn't get it I'm happy that a few did understand. I'm happy that this one is over.

Triptych

Hereeee's my triptych.... This assignment was a little tough. I had a lot of ideas before I came to this one, and honestly, this isn't even close to being that significant of an event in my life. I got a lot of positive feedback during the critique that really surprised me.. I was actually kind of nervous to go to class because I thought that my final product was way too underdeveloped, so I really appreciated the fact that my triptych was generally well received.

Still Life

This was kind of fun, I'm happy with my results and I learned a lot of new tools in the process. I was really impressed with everyone else's during the critique... I think it's so cool that we all have a substantial amount of artistic ability.

This illustration of my mom is the result of my first Illustrator experience.. it's a little odd, and my mother can't look at it without getting slightly offended, but creating this was a great learning experience. I can pick out at least 5 ways that I would improve the image, and I feel like it suffers without a more developed background.

The Best Imitation of Myself*

*Please don't be fooled by the title of this post because I'm really not a huge Ben Folds fan. 

I'm Kelly and I am 19. This is my second year at OCC, and although I've been into the idea graphic design for awhile, I didn't really have an active interest in art until I took Basic Drawing last fall. I've always lingered a little longer on the advertisements in magazines and I judge books by their covers a lot more often than I should (literally, not in the metaphorical sense). It's always been pretty clear to me that graphic design is something that will keep me happy, except whenever Top Chef comes back on, under which circumstance I always find myself cursing the day I never applied to culinary school. I've lived in Toms River, NJ my entire life which is something that I'm not entirely thrilled about, but I'm sickeningly close with my family and I really can't see myself happily fleeing to a far away college. I watch obscene amounts of quality (?) television, and when nothing good is on I work through my extensive TV on DVD collection. I'm a bit of a home-body and I talk to my cat too much, but she is very large and deserves a lot of attention. I have a past life as a pretty-much-professional clarinet player... no joke. Nowadays I spend less time playing music than I do listening to it.. more specifically, Belle and Sebastian, Neko Case, Regina Spektor, M. Ward, Arcade Fire, and a healthy dose of Beyonce. I read a lot, mostly novels- no science fiction, and certainly NO VAMPIRES- and I'm basically single handedly keeping Netflix in business with amount of movies I rent. Ugh I'm so sick of talking about myself. Yuck.
